Green Day is a band pop punk United States , formed in Berkeley in 1987 and consists of four members : Billie Joe Armstrong ( vocals, guitar) , Mike Dirnt (bass , vocals ) , Tre Cool (drums) and Jason White (guitar) . Tre Cool replaced the original drummer Al Sobrante in 1990 , who left the band due to his commitments in the study. Jason White , the historian sideman of the group, is now considered as a fourth member in 2012.
In 1994 , thanks to the success of their third album Dookie , which , with 10 platinum albums and one diamond , has sold more than 15 million copies in the United States and 15 worldwide , have been credited along with The Offspring and Rancid , the band that brought back the punk rock into the mainstream music.
